This Fall, fitness enthusiasts in Belize will be running for more than just personal achievement thanks to three highly anticipated charity runs. With causes ranging from the protection of Central America’s largest cat species to croc conservation and even education, each upcoming marathon will allow runners to embrace the thrill of the race while making positive impacts. Ready to give back to a worthy cause? Here’s what you need to know about these upcoming Belize Collection-sponsored runs.
Croc Run 2024 – October 20th
Registration Deadline: October 1st (5:00 PM)
Placencia’s Crocodile Research Coalition (CRC) has been dedicated to the preservation of the region’s crocodiles (and their habitats) since 2016. This year’s run takes place on Sunday October 20th, and participants can sign up for a half marathon, which begins at 5:30 AM, or a 5K fun run, beginning at 6:00 AM. Both will begin and end at the Flying Pig Bar and Grill on the Placencia Peninsula. The Belize Collection is proudly a gold sponsor for the event, and should you decide to participate, be sure to keep an eye out for Umaya Resort’s hydration station along the way. Registration can be done online via TotalTimeBz. The entry fee is BZ $40, and runners can expect plenty of cash prizes.

Roaring Run for the Jaguars – November 24th
Registration Deadline: October 3rd
Next on the calendar, the third annual Roaring Run for the Jaguars is a fundraiser marathon for the Best Little Zoo in the World: The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center. Taking place this year on Sunday, November 24th, the race— a 5K and 10 Mile run—is held each year in commemoration of International Jaguar Day (November 29th). It’s organized by The Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center, with head zookeeper Roxana Lemus at the helm, and this year The Belize Collection is proud to be the presenting sponsor of this admirable cause.
For years now, the zoo has been leading the charge to protect jaguars and jaguar habitats in Belize through their Human Jaguar Conflict Program. And while the Roaring Run for the Jaguars was founded in 2022 to increase awareness about jaguars and raise funds for an upgraded jaguar enclosure, today all proceeds go directly towards the program.
The race will kick off at 5:15 AM, starting at the Belize Zoo parking lot. Those interested in running can register online for a fee of $45.00. With $70.00, however, runners also get a special keepsake: a sublimated dri-fit T-shirt. Unable to run? You can still support the Belize Zoo and their Human Jaguar Conflict Program by purchasing a shirt. (Shirts are on sale for BZ $40).

The End of the World Marathon – December 8th
Registration Deadline: October 10th
Every December, the End of the World Marathon raises funds for the Placencia Rotary Club High School Scholarship program for Belizean youth. Founded by Placencia resident Chip Lowell to provide young Belizeans with scholarships, the quirky marathon gets its name from the year it first began—in 2012, when many believed the world would have come to an end (though in reality, it was just the end of the Maya calendar). This year, it takes place on Sunday the 8th, and runners can opt to do either a full marathon or a half marathon. The Belize Collection, through Umaya Resort & Adventures, is a proud silver sponsor of the run and will be hosting a water station along the route. It all kicks off at 5:00 AM and registration can be done online. The entry fee for the End of the World is US $100 for the full marathon or US $80.00 for the half marathon.
