The Ethos Behind Your Stay
When you choose to stay with The Belize Collection, you stay with a leading local hotel group guided by the belief that travel should uplift and feel proud knowing that your choice supports responsible travel.
That’s why our efforts focus on four challenges: Culture, Community, Conservation and Sports. What sets us apart is our intrinsic dedication to foster cultural preservation, conserve natural resources and empower community prosperity.
Celebrating Local Culture
The clear Caribbean shore or inland jungle adventures may be Belize’s postcard signature, but its real riches are cultural. We collaborate with local artists, musicians and community members to create immersive experiences that honor the energetic pulse of our diverse customs.
Through our Artist in Residence program, large-scale installations turn soft jungle hikes into moments of discovery. One of them already sets the mood on arrival at The Banks Resort as ‘El Garrobo’ flows from the outdoors into the lobby, like a curious iguana.
If music moves you, our Riverside Rhythms and Coastal Grooves evenings feature jazz and live entertainment.
Alternatively, explore Belize with our hands-on experiences that define local traditions. In Hopkins, participate in Garifuna drumming or a cooking session to prepare Hudut, a coconut fish stew with mashed plantains. At our inland properties, learn tortilla-making with Maya descendants over an open fire hearth.
Through these experiences, you’re able to connect with local community members, while simultaneously, your interest inspires them to celebrate their heritage.
Strengthening Our Communities
Sustainability and responsible tourism begin in the communities we’re part of. When children and families benefit and feel empowered, travel becomes a force for good.
That’s why we support organizations such as Marla’s House of Hope, a refuge for children. We also partner with the Belize Children’s Program and fund summer camps in our capital city that keep kids engaged.
Our guests often ask how they can contribute, and Pack for a Purpose is an easy way to bring supplies to local primary schools in the Toledo District. Umaya Resort in Placencia matches each of the donations to double the impact.
Of course, we never forget the magic of the holidays. Each year, we organize a Christmas Toy Drive for one institution that helps children from low-income communities to feel that joy, too. This tradition is fueled by the generosity of our guests and staff alike. And if there is a year that we miss some gifts, The Belize Collection steps in to make sure no child is left behind.
And just as we show up for the communities around us, that same mandate guides how we care for our company team.
Supporting Conservation Projects
We believe sometimes the best way to make a positive impact is by supporting projects that address core environmental issues.
That’s why we support the Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center and their commitment to rehabilitation and protection of Belize’s wildlife, which includes the habitat loss in the Maya Corridor caused by land development. We also partner with the Crocodile Research Coalition, as they mentor tomorrow’s stewards.
And a way for our guests to learn about these initiatives is through our Coffee with Conservationists talks and Roundtable Discussions at our resorts.
You’ll also experience sustainability in action with water dispensers in every suite and room, replacing single-use plastic. Another guest favorite is our monthly Lights Out event, with candlelit dinners under the full moon.
Sustainable sourcing is the center point of our kitchens, where we work with local free-grazers, farmers and fishermen to source ingredients at their peak freshness, including orchard-to-glass squeezed OJ from the groves surrounding The Banks and The Lodge at Sleeping Giant.
Nurturing Sports Potential
From the ancient Maya ball courts where pok-ta-pok was played to today’s packed bleachers and finish lines, sports have long been a unifying force in Belize.
At The Belize Collection, we see athletics as a community builder. Working alongside the Belmopan City Council, we support the Capital City Kings basketball team and the growing crowd of spectators who gather to cheer them on.
Beyond the camaraderie of the court, our commitment extends to runs that drive conservation. The Croc Run in Placencia supports the Crocodile Research Coalition and its Next Gen Croc youth program. While the Roaring Run for Jaguars, our title-sponsor event, raises funds and awareness for the Belize Zoo’s Human–Jaguar Conflict Program.
Additionally, each December, the End of the World Marathon, hosted by the Placencia Rotary Club, provides high-school and university scholarships for local youth who otherwise would not have been able to go beyond 8th grade.
This ongoing support reflects our belief that investing in accessible physical culture helps break down barriers for disadvantaged community members.
