This tour is ideal for nature lovers and intrepid travelers. You will take a 45-minute drive down the Southern Highway until you get to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary where the only Jaguar Preserve in the world is located. You’ll hike in this unique sanctuary which covers an area of about 150 square miles of tropical forest. It is estimated that over 80 resident jaguars are in the area. If you’re lucky, you may spot fresh jaguar tracks. Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to all five of Belize’s wild cats: the jaguar, puma, margay, jaguarondi, and ocelot. Belize’s national animal, the endangered Baird’s tapir, also inhabits the basin; 290 different species of birds have been recorded.
